A wealth of experience
With a combined experience of over 40 years working within the healthcare recruitment sector, we are confident in the standards we deliver to our employees, the healthcare professionals who represent our company and our clients, all of whom expect the very best service from us. Over the last decade, we have founded a number of the UK’s largest nursing agencies and have now pooled our experience to build Next Step Nursing.
Our wealth of experience allows us to reassure our clients and candidates, that when engaging with Next Step Nursing, we understand the complete process of recruitment. Next Step Nursing is proud to be on the government frameworks and has extensive experience working within the framework compliance standards. We place an emphasis on screening and registering candidates to meet the highest levels of compliance, sourcing suitably skilled candidates for our clients’ needs.
We can fill last minute bookings, lines of work and provide continuity via both temporary supply and permanent placements. We firmly believe that our ability to successfully meet our clients’ expectations, stems from the time spent building relationships, communicating effectively and delivering what we promise to all clients.
Next Step Nursing can supply all grades of nurses (RGN’s, RMN’s, Midwives, RHV’s, ODP’s and Health Care Assistants), nationally to the NHS and Private sector. We supply to Acute Hospitals, Community Hospitals, Private Hospitals, Prisons, Secure Training Centre’s, Mental Health Units, CAMHS Teams, DAT Teams, Nursing Homes, EMI Units and Residential Care Homes.
How we do it
Next Step Nursing attracts experienced professionals with a wide range of grades and specialities. With over 6000 qualified nurses (RGN & RMN) and Health Care Assistants on our database, our pool of professionals gives Next Step Nursing the ability to assist our clients nationally with wherever they are experiencing shortages within their teams.
Whether our client requires a nurse last minute, for a line of work, or to cover sickness, shortages or annual leave, Next Step Nursing can help fill these requirements 24/7. We are lifetime industry experts, who are passionate about ensuring that anyone who engages with us is valued and receives a professional service.
Every customer is assigned a dedicated consultant from our highly-experienced team. They are tasked with understanding each of our client’s unique requirements; allowing us to place the most suitable staff member available, in the shortest possible time.
In response to the continuously moving market of recruitment, Next Step Nursing works tirelessly to engage with staff to join our team, ensuring that we are always able to support our client’s needs; both new and existing.
Compliance
Every professional who registers with us must undergo our comprehensive recruitment process, in order to meet our superior levels of compliance. Upon successful completion of this process, we provide an induction period during which professionals are familiarised with our company policies and expectations. Every member of our team also receives a Next Step Nursing uniform, a tamper-proof identification badge and timesheets, which need to be completed at the end of each shift worked.
Our stringent compliance standards, coupled with our office being open 24-hours a day, gives us the ability to provide a fast, reliable short notice service to our clients requiring a shift covered ASAP. This is an essential service for many of our clients, due to the unpredictable nature of healthcare and the need for extra members of staff, with little prior notice. Whether due to staff sickness or a sudden need to increase staff numbers, our ability to supply suitably qualified professionals at short notice, gives our clients the reassurance they need when relying upon an agency partner.
Next Step Nursing will pool all of its resources to provide cover in an emergency. Our extensive database can be searched quickly, based on grade, specialism, location and specific skills and experience held, allowing Next Step Nursing to efficiently fill shifts, when our customers need us most!
Next Step Nursing is an approved national framework supplier and meets the standards set by the Care Quality Commission, Recruitment Employment Confederation, the NHS employment checks, National framework agreements and various governing bodies. We follow all required clinical governance regulations and ensure we go over and above our clients’ expectations.

At 19 I joined the renowned nursing agency ‘Ambition 24 Hours' as a trainee consultant, I enjoyed the work and after a few late nights and a lot of phone calls I found myself managing one of the largest portfolios of clients and candidates in the company.
Read moreA few years later I was offered an exciting opportunity to travel to South Africa as the company was moving its entire operation overseas. The company needed to be rebuilt with an entirely new sales team. My new role involved hiring & training hundreds of inexperienced staff for various roles and overseeing the growth of the business.
The following years led to many successful ventures, including building multiple start-up healthcare businesses. Most recently with VIP Nursing, working alongside an excellent team of tenacious young recruiters we achieved an annual turnover of £25 million, specialising in short notice supply to critical areas.
I left the business in February 2017 and decided it was time to do something different. I wanted to build a modern company that would adapt to the ever-changing healthcare recruitment landscape, share my values and be inspiring and enjoyable for others to work for … building on a premise of quality over quantity.
So, I decided to take my next step and Next Step Nursing was born.

I had actually always had aspirations to join the Police force, but unfortunately didn’t pass the necessary test due to my dyslexia. Undeterred however, I decided to take a side-ways step into the Prison Service.
Read moreAt the age of 21, I realised that despite the challenging and dynamic nature of the Prison Officer’s role, I was keen to develop additional skills and to build upon my earlier academic achievements and I set about finding a new and exciting career path to follow. The next chapter in my working life gave me my first taste of recruitment; working for ‘Ambition 24 Hours’ nursing agency. Within this role, I quickly learnt the arts of negotiation and effective management and above all else, the value and rewards of hard work. I willingly worked 8am until 10pm most days and was always prepared to go the extra mile to get the job done. At ‘Ambition’, I steadily built a hugely successful team and was quickly promoted to Sales Manager.
Recognising my successes as a Manager at ‘Ambition’, in 2003, I was invited to join forces with Kevin Coyle of ‘Coyle Personnel’ and it was at this time that ‘Mayday Healthcare Plc’ was founded.
Building the company up from ‘scratch’ was both exciting and challenging and business grew more quickly than any of us could have anticipated. Manning the mobile phones at all hours firmly paid off and lead to us becoming the largest privately owned recruitment company in the UK, providing to both the NHS and private sector.
Under the ‘Mayday’ umbrella, we proceeded to launch multiple recruitment agencies, taking us to a combined annual turnover of £147 million. Thirteen years later, I am able to reflect on just some of the team’s accomplishments and proudest moments and feel a great sense of fulfilment. These include: eight profitable companies, 380 employees, several listings in the Times ‘Fast Track 100’ and an invitation to 10 Downing Street to discuss policy!
I have always believed that the difference between success and failure is having a great team of people around you. The backbone of any thriving business is the collaboration of trustworthy and dependable people; where the vision is shared and everyone is working towards a common goal.
Having achieved my own personal goals at ‘Mayday Healthcare Plc’ and after considerable deliberation, in January 2017, I decided to depart the company on a high note and throw myself into starting my own new recruitment company, from the ground up. Quite aptly, this ‘next step’ in my career, became ‘Next Step Nursing’. I still find myself driven forward by the familiar passion to nurture and build a successful company, but I never lose sight of the importance of the team around me and my responsibility to inspire them to believe in the possibilities.
